I came across a very interesting article today containing a list of the 10 worst computer viruses of all time. The list gives a brief history of each virus and goes on to give a little background information on it and explain how it worked and got so popular. With the threat of new and more dangerous viruses coming out everyday, I thought this list was pretty interesting as it went back into the late 1990s to talk about some of the big boys of back then which started a good amount of what we see today and are still battling to get under control. Well, before I talk anymore… here is the list along with the link to the article:
Computer viruses can be a nightmare. Some can wipe out the information on a hard drive, tie up traffic on a computer network for hours, turn an innocent machine into a zombie and replicate and send themselves to other computers. If you’ve never had a machine fall victim to a computer virus, you may wonder what the fuss is about.
- The Melissa Virus
- ILOVEYOU Virus
- The Klez Virus
- Code Red and Code Red II
- Nimda
- SQL Slammer/Sapphire
- MyDoom Virus
- Sasser and Netsky
- Leap-A/Oompa-A
- Storm Worm
With these and newer viruses causing BILLIONS of dollars in damage it may seem as though they are winning the battle in staying safe while being online. But the best and most effective way to keep your computer safe is knowing what you should and shouldn’t do. (No it isn’t keeping your computer unplugged from the internet forever.) Most people get infected because they don’t realize what to lookout for or don’t notice the warning signs that they might have been infected. The most important other way to stay safe is to have a good anti-virus and to keep it updated. (If you are on the web a good bit it is usually a good idea to have it scan your computer about once every week or two.) If you think you have been infected and would like some assistance getting rid of the annoying virus, you can refer to the walk through I have written which should be able to get rid of it.

So there you have it, I could ramble on about this subject for a while, but I figured it is best to keep it to a minimum and just get out the important stuff. So read away, and if you have any questions or anything… please feel free to leave a comment!
