Ha! You indeed have a very good point! While it is a nice touch that it isn't too resource heavy like some were fearing, the fact that it is from MS means that it won't be perfect and will have tons of holes in it. I suppose only time will tell if they can keep it updated and turn it into a good product that people will want to use.

I am going to have to agree with you here... This is a step in the right direction for them and their browser but there are still some shortcomings.

Its targeted by so many virus makers / hackers, it is great news that they say that they have upped the security and made it harder to get malware through. Although I stopped using IE7 around the time Chrome came out, I myself might go back and give IE8 another chance and see if I can notice all the "improvements" I see everyone talking about.

I think its going to take a lot of good results to win back a good percent of the people who went to Firefox / Chrome... so I suppose only time will tell!

Andrew,

While I'm proud that Microsoft is taking the actions to make their browsers the best at catching viruses and malware, the #1 issue is still the fact that the browser isn't W3C compliant as it should be.

The reason why people have been graviting toward the Firefox and Safari platforms is because they are standardized and don't completely flake out differently when you see the information.

While Microsoft is starting to get it a little bit, they still have a little ways to go to recontrol the browser population. This is their best chance and I think this is a deciding moment for Microsft and their browser. If they don't win over fans with IE8 or IE9, I can see them dropping to <50% use.

I will have to agree with you on that one. Up until now Mac users haven't really ever had to worry about viruses and such, but as Apple keeps advertising Mac OS X and they keep gaining ground and getting more and more users... the people behind this type of stuff will most defiantly start to focus more on these people who haven't ever really had to even think about anti-virus software.
